POSTRS (run by CEDR)
Check eligibility, and the sender usually needs to be the one who complains.
Step two
Work through the stages in order. Each one creates the paper trail the next stage needs.
Stage 1
As soon as the problem happens
Call 0344 800 4466, email parcelforce@parcelforce.co.uk or use the online form. Give your tracking number, the dates and what went wrong.
Ask for a reference number.
Take photos of any damage and keep the packaging.
Stage 2
Straight away
Say clearly that you are making a complaint and what outcome you want. For loss, damage or delay, also use Parcelforce's claims route for compensation.
Keep proof of postage and value.
A complaint and a compensation claim are separate things.
Stage 3
After the first reply
If the first reply does not settle it, write to Parcelforce Worldwide, Correspondence Team, PO Box 486, Wakefield, WF1 9AG with your reference and a short timeline.
Keep a copy.
Mark it as a follow-up to your earlier complaint.
Stage 4
When talks stall
Ask Parcelforce for its final (deadlock) response in writing if it cannot agree a solution. You will need it, or a long delay, to go further.
Keep the letter or email.
Third-party guides say POSTRS can take cases after a deadlock letter or after 90 days.
Stage 5
After the final response
Eligible complaints can go to POSTRS (cedr.com/consumer/postrs). Parcelforce also points Scottish customers to Advice Direct Scotland (0808 800 9060) and Northern Ireland customers to the Consumer Council (0800 121 6022).
Check POSTRS eligibility first.
POSTRS is free for consumers.

Parcelforce's conditions treat the sender as the contract holder. If you are the recipient, start with the sender or retailer as well as Parcelforce.
Ask for a final response, then check whether your case can be referred to POSTRS. In Scotland you can contact Advice Direct Scotland and in Northern Ireland the Consumer Council, both listed on Parcelforce's complaints page.
