Are SGR tickets refundable?

Refunds are only accepted 48 and 72 hours before the time of travel for individuals and groups respectively. Refunds shall be subject to a 30% fee of the ticket price. No refunds shall be done for damaged or defaced tickets.

What is the difference between Inter-County and express SGR?

The Madaraka Express is the afternoon train, and is express, meaning no stops until the final destination. The InterCounty train is the morning train and makes stops at each county station on the SGR train route

What are SGR reporting times and boarding process?

Passengers should get to the train station not later than 60 minutes before departure for an easy check-in (document examination and security checks) and boarding experience.

The final call for boarding the train is made 11 minutes before departure time and the gates to the platform close 10 minutes before departure time.

Passengers can purchase a ticket up to sixty (60) days in advance and a return ticket as long as it is within the sixty (60) days window period. Passengers are advised to have original identification documents when booking over the counter and during the journey.

Mombasa – Nairobi SGR Train

The Inter-county (morning) train departs Mombasa Terminus at 0800 hrs and arrives in Nairobi at 1408 hrs.
